Challenge cards

I have 2 cards for you this morning...another for the Whiff of Joy challenge from last week, and todays Unity addicts challenge.

I loved Katharina's sketch last week and wanted to make another card with it before it got lost on my desk :)  I started this one days ago, but it still needed something...so a couple of extra layers and doodads this morning and its ready!

The adorable donkey is one of the Party Animals line from Whiff of Joy, this is Michelle celebrating Donkey.  She is just so happy!  I cut the bg layer from MaMBI pattern paper using a Technique Tuesday tile for the pattern...tracing and then cut out.  The main panel and layers are all done with my circle nestabilites.  Michelle is colored in with copics, then highlighted with my spica glitter pens.

  And here is my card for the UNity addicts challenge.  I am not totally happy with it...a bit too simple.  But the challenge was to use red, pink, blue, and yellow and a theme of Valentine's day.

Yellow is always hard for me, so I chose a pp I like from my Urban Prairie Basic Grey pad...lots of yellow and pink and blue.  I added some Rose Red mats for the red...even though it looks more pink I think, its not cheating if the name contains red, right??!

Its Your Day

  I have been swamped lately with needing birthday cards...mainly for my kids' friends it seems.  So I am sooo glad that  got a few of these adorable Party Animals from Whiff of Joy! This is Henry Celebrating Mouse, again...I think he may be my fav of this line.  No shimmerz on him this time, just a tad of spica glitter pens over the copic marker coloring.

Half of the base of the card is cuttlebugged with the Happy Birthday folder.  The pp is bits of a Junkitz line that was in my scrap basket.  Layout is last weeks sketch from PCP.  The sentiment is also Whiff of Joy, Party setiments.

Scrappy Sunday!!

Good morning!  I am going to try to re-institute Scrappy Sundays.  This was the day I was doing my Scrappy Sketches...so maybe I will try to bring those back...but in the meantime...my goal will be to post a scrapbook layout  every Sunday, if not more often.

So, todays is a pic I pulled out from last weeks snow day...I just love this shot of Rachael & Michael.  We didn't have a ton of snow to play in, but that didn't stop them!

I blew the photo up to an 8x10 then trimmed it down to a long size of about 6x 10.  The pp is all the new Arctic Chill from Fancy Pants.  I hand cut the snow flakes along the border to add a lacy dimensional effect. 

In the corners of teh PP and onto some of the cs I stamped the flourish from Priceless...tehn added a touch of Frosted Lace stickles here and there.  The felt snowflakes are all from SU!  I layered them, attached with a brad, then stickled all the arms?? of each snowflake also.  (What are all the pieces of a snowflake called...anyone know?? Arms. rays, help??!)

 

Here's a closeup of some of the flakes.  They are so much prettier with a bit of glitter! The letters are cut from a piece of the pp and then stickled and layered onto some long tags from my stash.    These were then popped up on Scotch foam squares. 

I used a smaller version of the tag to do the journaling and then hung that from my bow.

Cherish...

 Quick post tonight :)  I have a couple of things I made for work...my local stamp/scrap store, Enchanted Cottage!  Marilyn wanted me to do something with this Basic Grey paper (the Fusion line)...so I paired it with one of the newer stamp sets for the Two Scoops line (also Basic Grey) and came up with this.

All 3 bg papers are from the Fusion line.  I added a scallop border using a jumbo scallop scissor and some thin organdy May Arts ribbon.  The heart is layers of the Spellbinders Heart Nestabilites in Scallop and Plain.  That was stamped with the Cherish sentiment from the BG set in Plaette Burnt Umber. 

The chipboard accents are Creative Cafe by Creative Imaginations, inked with a dark brown cats eye.  Flowers are Making Memories (Ivory) and prima (Burgundy) and the brads are Basic Grey.

  This card is also made with stamps from the Two Scoops acrylic set by Basic Grey...this time paired with papers from the same line.  The stamp was inked with Blue Encore then embossed with clear EP.  The heart was cut with the large heart Marvy punch then stamped and embossed in white EP with the swirl from the Two scoops set.  Chipboard is also Creative Imaginations...as is this time...no inking needed!

Happy Owlentine's Day! (...and a plug for Memento)

(OK, so I actually have been working on TONs of layouts, its just that none are totally done and ready to share, yet.  Sorry!  I know when I polled you all a couple of weeks back a lot of you said...get back to the scrapping!  I am, I promise!  I will have a bunch to share in the next 2 weeks, promise!!)

I have been eyeing some sets at Treehouse Stamps for a while now...and I finally broke down and spent my birthday money on a combo order from Ashley  (TH owner and artist)...I got a couple of her sets plus a couple from other companies (a great way to get a bit of this and that and not pay shipping!!)...because shes now carrying TONS of new stuff from allover!  Thanks Ashley!  (and she is just the sweetest ever if you've never chatted with her :))

So, this is like my most favorite set she has ever drawn...I just love these cute love-birds and all their adorable sentiments!  The set is Owlentine.  I also got my Basic Grey Bittersweet paper and buttons from Treehouse Stamps with the same order:O

The layout for the card is Lauren Meader's  My time sketch from this last Saturday...I only cheated a bit...I left off one of the small elements where the flower is (there should be 2)...cause I just HAD to have ribbon and a sentiment {wink}.  I do think the layout is super cute and I know I will use it again!  

I used my Nestabilities Labels 1 for the mats for the owls, and for the right hand side panel...I put the edge of the paper in the center of the Nestie so I only got half of the largest label.  Hehe.  All stamps were inked with Memento ink, and all edges inked with the same.  This is my ABSOLUTE new FAVORITE ink!!!  The rep was in the store the other day telling us it was so great to use with copics, and of course I am like, yeah, whatever, you rep for them.  BUT, I have to say I pulled out that day 3 types of cardtsock, and a variety of inkpads.  The Memento was the only one that dried INSTANTLY with NO smearing...WooHoo!!!  Leave it to Tsukineko to come out with yet another gotta have pad!  Palette watch out!  There's a new sherriff in town!

Challenge cards & Snow & CHA peek link

I have been a bad  blogger again this week.  Sorry.  There has been a lot going on here...including  a bit of SNOW finally!  Here's a peek at my 2 youngest yesterday, out playing in the whopping 2 inches we got...woot woot!!  (Hey, its NC...thats a LOT for us!)

  At least they had fun and I got a couple of snapshots to make layouts with!  But I know, thats not why you are here.  Wanna see some cards??

First up is my magical unicorn card!  There is a contest going on over at The Greeting Farm...just download the unicorn image and create a magical unicorn, then you could win 2 free sets!  Woohoo!!  (Only thing is, today is the last day so you better hurry!)

Here is my unicorn...I felt that green was a nice magical color, with blue hair, right??  She matches this adorable pp from heidi Grace.  she is cut out with circle nestabilites, and I added a touch of bling with some fun gems that I am TOTALLY addicted to right now.  The yummy ribbon is from my stash.

Here's a closeup of her.  Her name is Starpaw.  You can see here the shimmer of her mane...there is magical unicorn dust in her hair (kind of like pixie dust??)  That was created with a Stardust glitterpen from Gellyroll...a must have for all crafters!

I pulled out my handy dandy Prisma pencils for this one.  My shading isn't bad, (I used copics after for more variation) but I still have streaks where the pencil lines are in the center when I try to blend with the stump.  any suggesstions?

Darker color to ground it?  Can't decide.  This is what happens when I don't sit and look at a card over a couple of days before I finalize it.

I was trying to use up some scraps on my table from a Piggy Tales project from last week...BTW, did I show you that?  I will in a sec....maybe tomorrow...hehe.  This is almost the end of what I have of the Cinderella collection..but I may can eek out one more card another day with some bits :)

I used my fav of the newest Party Animals release from Whiff of Joy...Henry Celebrating Mouse (along with Party Sentiments).  Is he just stinkin' adorable??!  He is also all colored in not only with copics, but layers of Shimmerz paints on top!

Here you can see his sweet pink glimmering ears!  They just make me want to squeel!!  I love, love, love my Shimmerz!  I only have a handful of colors. My LSS doesn't have any of the new ones that I am coveting...Yet!

BUT, speaking of Piggy Tales earlier...the rep was in our store a couple of days back and the new PT lines coming out next month....eeeekkk!!  I can't wait!!  I love getting peeks:)  If you didn't follow my link the other day, check out the Piggy Tales blog for peeks at the newest 4 collections!

SFYTT: Dorothy Anya

Last week I found a new fun company, The Greeting Farm , it was formerly Pink Poison.  I remember hearing about it a while back when it first started, but never went to check it out.  But ooooo...such cute images!!

The bonus was...there are a few digi-images which you can download immediately!  Coolness :)

I downloaded Dorothy Anya...I just love her adorable oversized head...hehe. Did you see the cute little tiny bows I tied on her piggytails??  She is all decked out in a pale blue frock to match the Bo Bunny Valentine's paper.  The sentiment is from Pink Cat Studio.  The layout for the card is based on Jen's SFYTT from last saturday...I am just now getting around to posting it.

Are you a guitar hero?

  Want another layout??  I had a mini-book in mind for these photos but I ended up with a layout instead...this is Michael and Rachael rockin' out one afternoon with the new Guitar Hero World Tour.  OK, seriously, have you played it??? It is TOTALLY addicting!

I found this absolutely perfecto paper by Piggy Tales  called Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with the matching die-cuts....love that guitar!!  But wait!  There's more!  Its a "barn-door"...it opens to reveal jornaling behind (or inside)...how cool is that?!!

  Here's the closeup of the guitar open...love it!!  I did add a bit of bling to my edges...someone (the 5 year old??) crumpled an edge so I fixed that right up with some stickles!! Tada!!  I then added a bit of stickles to other parts of the layout to make it cohesive.

That cute ribbon is also Piggy Tales!  The stars are clear acylic...from my stash forever ago...by Heidi Swapp.  I colored them in with a Sharpie white paint pen...then you can't see the tape runner under the star...(wink)

  This is a closeup of another barn door (they all came in a set of die-cut barndoor shapes).  I stuck a photo behind this one.

Free Spirit

 When I polled you guys a while back, there are a lot of you wanting me to show you more scrapbook layouts.   Soooooo... I have a couple of layouts for you tonight :)  I pulled out my favorite ever Piggy Tales paper again... the Cinderella Collection.  I just LOVE these colors together!!  This is the end of my scraps for this line, except a couple of really small pieces so now I will need to tell it goodbye, or find some more (wink).

But, have you seen the NEW Piggy Tales papers coming for Winter CHA??  EEEkkkk!  so cute!  Check the PT blog HERE for a peek!

Back to the page...I cut the circle with my Curvy Cutter, added some white dots with the Signo gel pen, and some swirly flourishes to the corners with a stamp from Close To My Heart, Free Spirit.  I liked the name of the set so much that I used it for my title!  The "free" are some really old stickers from my stash...K& Co I think.  The Spirit is done with AMerican Crafts Thickers.  All edges were inked with a cat's eye.

{I want to stop and talk about adhesive for a minute.  I have tried every tape runner under the sun it seems.  And I just purchased another Scotch one recently, and I have to say that guess what??  My layers actually stay where they belong, and don't fall off later!  I am loving this stuff!!}

Lily the Fairy

  Melissa over at Pink Cat Studio is having a contest to start off the new year before her first 2009 release (scheduled for next Thursday Jan 15th!) :)  She posted a downloadable digi image of Lily the fairy over at the PCS blog.  All you have to do is make a card using this image and then enter it for a chance to win a FREE set!

I made 2 cards with Lily.  The first I colored her like a little pixie...green hair and all!  She is perched over  a giant mushroom...which I hand-drew.  I added lots of little bling to this card...gems on the mushroom, the wand and the greeting, as well as some sparkle in her hair and on her wings.

All the panels were sewn on with white thread.  The make a wish sentiment is from elzybells.

  My second card I matched Lily to this fun Heidi Grace paper that I just got at my LSS and have been dying to use!  for this one I used my labels 1 Nestabilites, tracing inside the edge for just a bit of border.  After Lily was all done I went back and painted on some Fruit Punch stickles...and made a discovery...stickles makes the ink from my printer run....urgh...it was all dry and fine for my copics.

  Happy Saturday!  I have so many projects that I have been working on, but none are ready for me to show you yet, sorry!!  I do have this card, which was a class  card from last week for you for now.

I used the new "Love ya Much" stamp set from Stampin' Up! and paired that with last years Bo Bunny Valentines paper...A Gift of Love.  Its a tent topper card with a bazillion layers.  I did pull out my pretties kit, which I like never use, and inked the flower directly onto my Pink Pirouette pad...then tipped it for Riding Hood Red.

Other supplies used: Basic Black, Pirouette Pink, Riding Hood Red, Tempting Turquoise cs and inks; black grosgrain ribbon, scallop border punch, black brad.

Viva La Verve week 2

Happy Friday!  And its a special Viva la Verve challenge today...Amber asked me a couple of days back to do a special card ahead for the sketch this week so it can post with hers!  How cool is that?!  Glad you'd liked it last week chickie!  Hope this weeks doesn't dissapoint too much!

This was a fun sketch and the twist was to use a lot of BLING-baby!  I pulled out some fun rhinestone colors and matched them up with new paper I had then went through all my Verve stamps til inspiration struck with these fabbo hearts from "Wild Thing"...one of last years Verve Valentine sets.  Have you seen the new releases coming out tomorrow?  WOW!  Some great ones!  Head over to the Verve blog to see some great eye candy!

I also used Feeling Groovy for my sentiment.  The hearts from wild Thing are stamped twice...one stamp on the pattern paper...then the outline in black on black...then these were layered...and added some bling:)

The background of the main panel is white PTI cs, cut with the curvy rectangle nestabilities.  Pattern paper is new Bo Bunny...the pink pattern I ran through my Cuttlebug with the Paisley folder...then I sanded it to bring out the white core where the images were raised.  Gems are Me & my Big Ideas, ribbon from my stash.  Thats about it!  head over to SCS (link above for the challenge) and play along with us!  Thanks for popping by!   -Cyndi

Valentine Box, blog candy winner

First....random.org picked #10....Darlene L as the winner of my blog candy!  Darlene send me your snail mail and I'll get this out to you!

  Good morning!  I have a cute little box for you today:)  I needed a valentine goody of some sort for club and thought a box made from the heart Nestabilities would be cute.  I first tried doing it all as one piece for the base, but I needed a more substantial bottom to get it to sit up straight, so I ended up with a box bottom and then adhered my hearts to it.

I used the scallop and straight edge heart nesties...the kiwi heart was also run though with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder.  The sentiment is from The Cat's Pajamas...Loving Mew.  Kitty is a Pink Cat Studiostamp, from the Kitty Christmas plate...I was inspired but one of the challenge cards at PCP...making the angel into a cupid...what a cute idea!  I cut out her horn and replaced it with the smallest heart from the nesties.

Inside the box is some starburst candy tied up in a cello baggie:)

  Also I have a cardfor you that I never got around to posting last week.  This is a Lizzie Anne Designssketch challenge card.  I used In the Treetop for the stamps.  PP is from Piggy Tales...is that cute paper or what??  (Cinderella collection)  Buttons are from My Minds Eye, paper is Cameo Coral, Kiwi Kiss, and PTI Chocolate.

Unity Addicts' SLIM challenge

I have 3 cards for you today...all Unity!  Its time again to start up the weekly Wednesday Unity Addicts Challenge!  This weeks challenge issuer was Kim and here is what she came up with:

A SLIM challenge:  S.ometimes L.ess I.s M.ore ....get it??  OK, well thats a challenge for me...thus why I have mutiple cards for today.  One or 2 layers and one stamp (& greeting) & one embellishment.....aaargh!!!

So...here you go...the mini Giggle Grove trees from a Kit of the Month...paired with some new Prima paper.  (I did sneak a few extra layers in...but no extra besides the main panel)

Next is my card for Amber's Unity sketch #8...and also this weeks color challenge at SCS...Garden Green (yuck), Brilliant Blue (ok) and Pumpkin (love that one).

So I pulled out some of last years SU! DSP and cheated a bit.  The pattern is actually Wasabi dots...but close enough.  I did use real Garden green for the mat.  I actually like the way it turned out!

Lastly...a real color challenge for me...not really a challenge...but I had gotten a pad of paper and wanted to use it...but the colors turn out so blah for me.  Oh well...still kinds pretty, just not my style.  This is more Unity though...Floral Fantastical, and last weeks sketch challenge.

Sweetpea Cupid Preview

  Guess what??  I actually get to do one last preview for All That Scraps!  Christine had sent me digital files a few months back of Sweetpea and I asked her if I could post my samples today and she said yes!!  So here are 2 cards for you.  Be sure to go to the ATS blog to check out the details on SweetPea and to see what the DT came up with.  There is LOTS of new eye candy there this week...totally cute new sets coming out in a couple of days!

For my first cupid I printed her out larger AND reversed, since you can do that with digi...how cool is that?!!  I made this card a couple of months back so my memory on the deets may be a bit vaque.  The pattern paper was from my stash.  she was colored with copics, with a touch of glitter thrown in.  The "lovestruck" sentiment is from a Cat's Pajamas set.  The heart is a nestabilitie.

My second cupid card I printed her as is.  She is again colored with copics...I love that they don't bleed at all, even immediately with my printer!  This card is also for the Featured stamper challenge at SCS, found HERE.  The FS this week is Julie Ebersole, and her gallery can be found HERE.  The rules are you have to change at least 2 things.  I loved the layout, so I changed the stamp and the colors (pp).

The valentine sentiment is from one of last year's CC Designs sets...Love Ya much.  Paper is new from My Minds Eye, which I also picked up at All That Scraps:)  OK< I am off to work at my local stamp store...gotta love it!  Thanks for popping in!  -Cyndi

Viva La Verve!

  A new Year brings new challenges and Verve stamps  has started a new weekly challenge...Viva La Verve!  This is challenge #1 from Amber...a sketch challenge with a twist...you must use hardware:)  see the original challenge in the SCS Verve forum HERE.

I chose some bright fun Bo Bunny paper and paired it with a few of my favorite Verve sets, LOL.  I outlined some parts of the flowers to mimic the pattern paper...and my hardware corners were originally white, so I changed them to black with a copic marker!  This ended up being a pretty easy and fun card to make, minus all the cutting of course!

Katharina's Sketch Challenge #37

  Katharina, owner of Whiff of Joy, presented a sketch chalenge on her blog HERE, and the winner receives a new Party animal stamp from Whiff of Joy.  Well, everyone knows I can't resist a good challenge, especially when there are FREE stamps involoved!  And that  little mouse under the party hat is a gotta have too:)  Have you seen all the new adorable images drawn by alison??  Too cute!!

I used my newest WoJ image, Herb with Baby for the sketch and paired it with some new My MInds Eye papers.  I also got to use my new Air gun for my copcs!  (all of these were Presents from my friend Julie who got me a gift cert to All That Scraps... thanks Julie!!)

Here's a closeup of the ribbon treatment.  I sewed the Soft Sky ribbon onto the chocolate cs corner piece, adding some ruffles for interest.  I think it turned out really neat!!  I didn't want too much going on, so I didnt put the ribbon on the other corner piece, just a tag instead, keeping it asymmetrical yet still centered, KWIM?

I also added machine stiching to all the mats on this card...I am loving havng my machine set up again...if I just leave it out I actually use it WAY more:)

(Yes, the corner was a bit unseemly, so I glued a bow over where the piece of ribbon is "mitered")

  And here's the other corner...the sentiment is from a Verve Stamps set, Starlight, Starbright remixed.  I thought this would be another great baby card!  So, thats the main ingrediants of the card...I also added some Glaze to the eyes and nose of each snowman, and to the berries, some highlights with a white gel pen, and some dew drops.

A baby card, Amy R style

  Good morning!  does evryone have plans for the weekend?  I want to get some scrapping done if the kids allow!  Its another COLD day here in NC so of course they are stuck inside...my guess is they will be on Guitar Hero all day again!

OK, so I needed a baby card, and I just love all the little clothes that Amy put in her last set..."Amy's Wardrobe". (Go to Amy's blog for sneak peeks of her new adorable Wedding set!!)  I chose the little onsie for y card :)  Amy R Stamps are avaiable through All That Scraps!

Since I was using Amy's stamps, I thought I would kinda take on her style a bit too, so since Papertrey is always appearing on her cards (wonder why??) I pulled out my Pink patterns to paper-piece the little onesies.  The hangers were stamped directly on the white mat then I laid the cut-out pieces right over those.

Well, its a pretty straightforward card today, so I am outta here and sneaking off to the stamp room!  Thanks for dropping in!

Whiff of Joy Challenges...

Guess What?? Whiff of Joy is having their first NEW RELEASE party over at the WoJ group on Papercraft Planet this afternoon (5pm EST)!  Cool!  I hate I will miss most of it :(  But Katharina also having a sketch challnge for a chance to win some of the new releases!!  Its a new birthday line by Alison Acton...and those Party animals are super-cute!!!

But, on to the cards!!   I have a couple of challenge cards for you this afternoon!  First up...the last challenge on the Whiff of Joy challenge blog for December was good for the whole month (thanks goodness).  The challenge was to do a Christmas card in non-traditional colors (no red or green).

So, here is what I came up with last week.  This is Charlotte with Reindeer from Whiff of Joy.  She is one of the first stamps I ever ordered from Katharina and ...still one of my favorites!  I chose to pair her with some old pp from my stash is Pinks and Turquoise.  I think the layout  was also a sketch challenge from somewhere a couple of weeks back, but now I don't remember!
